An independent contemporary dance company founded by Cecilia Lugo in 1986. Ever since its first performance in Mexico, at the Teatro de la Ciudad, it has strived ceaselessly, appearing at all the top forums of Mexico. Abroad, it has been invited to perform at major artistic festivals around the world: Germany, France, Spain, Canada, USA, Peru, Chile, Argentina and the Czech Republic.

Since its founding, it has created more than 40 choreographic works of varying formats, welcoming more than 100 professionals of the highest artistic level, such as Lila Downs, Oscar Oliva, Jaramar, Jarmila Dostálová, Joaquín López Chas, Xóchitl González, Leopoldo Novoa, Ricardo Ramírez, José Jorge Carreón, Ricardo Gallardo, Arturo Márquez, Alberto Castro Leñero, Jerildy Bosch, Eduardo Soto Millán, Eugenio Toussaint, Damián Alcázar, as well as a large number of ballerinas and danseurs, choreographers and teachers who have nurtured Contempodanza's vitality with their experience, the stamp of continuity and excellence which has defined the company.

Its artistic endeavors have been characterized by the high technical and creative level of its members, as well as by a constantly renovated mise-en-scène. Cecilia Lugo, its director and choreographer, has given her own stamp to the teamwork, creating a poetics recognizable in her works. The scenic resultant is the product of a personal coherence linking ethics with aesthetics, a maturity in choreographic language and, at the same time, a creative detonator opening the doors to experimentation and the search for new horizons.

Its members, as well as its works, have received numerous prizes, scholarships, awards and financial support. In 2008, its ballerinas and danseurs received the following prizes and awards within the framework of the XXVIII Festival Internacional de Danza Contemporánea Lila López: Best Danseur, Saúl Gurrola; Best Ballerina, Gabriela Gullco; Honorable Mention for her Professional Career as Danseur, Lino Perea;  Furthermore, Guadalupe Acosta won a performing scholarship from FOCAEM 2009; Ugo Ruiz won First Prize for Choreography in the jazz competition El Galardón, Mexico City, Federal District; and Marely Romero was awarded the Grand Prix of Prague as choreographer, within the New Prague Dance Festival 2008, with her Centro de Formación Profesional para Bailarín en Danza Contemporánea at Contempodanza espacio en Movimiento.

In recognition of his artistic and encouragement for the continuation of their work, the Company supported Contempodanza largest awarded to arts groups in the country entitled "Mexico on Stage" award Conaculta. Fonca in emissions: 1 st, 2 nd. 3 rd and 4 th during the years 2004-2006, 2007-2009, 2009-2011 and 2011-2013.

The conceptual premise of the artistic effort at Contempodanza is based on understanding, exercising and representing dance as a ritual involving the intimacy of the human being in a discourse that lends meaning to the search for truth experienced by every creator, whether springing from an explicit desire or not to discover it.
